Bone grafting & sinus lifts
Supplemental procedures that rebuild jawbone so you can qualify for implants — including socket preservation, ridge augmentation, and sinus lifts.
Not enough bone for implants? Bone grafting rebuilds the foundation — and often turns a 'no' from another office into a 'yes.'
Rebuilding the foundation for implants
Successful implants need enough healthy bone to anchor into. When a tooth has been missing for a while — or gum disease has taken its toll — the jawbone can shrink, leaving too little to support an implant. Bone grafting gently rebuilds that foundation so implants become possible again.
During a graft, Dr. Sheehan adds bone or a bone-like material to the deficient area. Over the following months, your body integrates the graft and forms new, living bone strong enough to hold an implant securely.
Common supplemental procedures
- Socket preservation. Bone added right after an extraction to keep the site implant-ready.
- Ridge augmentation. Rebuilding width and height where bone has shrunk.
- Sinus lift. Adding bone in the upper jaw where the sinus sits too low for an implant.
